After serious consideration, the Bond producers decided to 'reboot' the saga and go back to the roots, showing OO7 as he used to be in the beginning of his superspy career - a naïve bespectacled youth, full of contradictions and faults, who makes lots of mistakes, one of which is falling in love with his target.

The action takes place during the Cold war era. MI6's attention has been drawn to Elizabeth Goldstein - a private entrepreneur from East Germany, who actively purchases modern, state-of-the-art mining machinery in England. The British SIS believes that this powerful and eccentric woman is actually a high-ranking HVA officer, who intends to use the machinery for unbeknown strategic purposes.

Assigned to investigate it, OO7 soon gains Elsa's confidence and gets a job in her mining crew. After a while he discovers that the sixth sense didn't fail his boss: Elsa Goldstein is going to dig an underground tunnel from East Berlin to West Berlin, right to the vaults of the Central Bank, where she wants to explode a dirty nuclear device and, by devaluing the gold, destroy the economics of the last bulwark of capitalism in Eastern Europe.

Night and day, in total secrecy, the six men crew digs the tunnel. But the nearer they get to the aim, the stronger young Bond falls in love with Elsa. The night before the operation, he tries to talk her out of committing the crime, but fails: the HVA officer turns out to be completely faithful to her formidable organization. When the gang breaks into the bank vault, Elizabeth Goldstein orders to neutralise OO7 and chain him to the bomb. Only luck will save James Bond...
